Summer Whites

It is summer time, which for most people means wearing much more white then they would the rest of the year. It is also the season where people tend to sweat much more then they would the rest of the year...these two things combined can create those terrible yellow stains under the arms and around the collar.

Quick tips for getting those yellow stains out and getting your whites to sparkle again!

T-shirt underarm stains: Put your tees in the washing machine and add detergent as usual. When the basin is completely full of water, pop in one aspirin. Close the lid, let the cycle run, and voilà: whiter T-shirts.

Yellow collars: Turn on your iron to medium heat with the steam option turned on. Sprinkle baby powder onto the collar until the stain is covered, and then rub it in with your fingers. Hold the iron an inch above the soiled spot, and steam for 10 seconds. Then press the iron on the stain and count to three. Next, shake off the excess powder.

What's "In" and what's "Out"? In: Hats, Out: Hat Head

Hats were all over the runways during the Fall/Winter shows and we are loving this trend however, we do not love the hat head it gives us!

Whether you prefer a sport ski hat, artistic beret, coquettish cloche, or fashionable fedora here are a few tips to get your hair as bouncy, styled and volumized as it was before you topped it off with this season’s trend!

·      Keep travel size shampoo in your purse (try Ojon Hair Rub-Out Dry Cleanser To Go, $10, Sephora) after you take your hat off flip you head upside down and spray on your roots.

·      Skip heavy styling products on hat days, mixed with the heat trapped under your hat it will almost guarantee hat head.

·      Carry small comb/brush in your purse for onsite styling. Check out your local Sephora or Ulta for different options and find the one that best suits your hair type and cut.

·      Before you put the blow dryer away make sure your hair is completely dry, leaving the slightest bit of dampness will cause frizz and static.

For all of you fashionable stylistas out there embracing this trend, this should help!

Best Dressed - The SAG Awards 2011

As promised here are the “best” of the best from the SAG Awards 2011…

Best makeup: Dianna Agron

This up and comer looked amazing in Chanel Haute Couture and she could’ve snagged many more “best” awards but today she wins the award for best makeup. Her makeup enhances her natural beauty rather than artificially create it.

Best Hair: Tina Fey

Her hair was sleek, chic, and to the point. It did exactly what hair should do at a red carpet event: frame the face, compliment the dress, accent the jewelry, and not beg for your attention.

Best Jewelry: Guiliana Rancic

Gorgeous earrings, great cocktail ring but the real stunners were the four large diamond bracelets she piled on and she said it best when she said. “each link is a girl’s dream engagement ring”.

Best Fashion Moment: Julie Bowen

What a modern and fresh take on red carpet attire! We are LOVING Julie’s choice of a black silk pantsuit by Catherine Malandrino - the perfect touch of glamour and ease, and a great red carpet fashion moment.

Best Dressed Man: Taye Diggs

Crisp, clean, and at ease make Taye Diggs our choice for best dressed man. We love that he chose to wear a bow tie and we love the color. The ease that he has makes this look relatable and inspiring for other men.

Best Dressed Woman: Nicole Kidman

Nicole continuously makes “best dressed” lists worldwide but we are especially loving this look. It juxtaposes sexy with sweet, demure with revealing, and modern with vintage. This Nina Ricci gown took our breath away!

Looking forward to the rest of award show season - stay tuned for our "best" of the best from the Grammy's and the Oscar's next month!

Beat Winter Blues!

Some researchers have dubbed the third week in January “Blue Week”. It is the time of year when the winter blues kick in…the tree and décor are neatly put away, the excitement of the new year has faded, gift cards received during the holidays are spent, and it is colder than ever.

Here are our favorite ways to warm up and melt away the blues…

·      Aromatherapy spa treatments, they work wonders to create mood shifts.
·      Yoga and fun dance classes can break up the monotony of your day and get your blood flowing.
·      Natural supplements such as Gingko Biloba and St. Johns Wart have been shown to create happiness, concentration, and relaxation.
·      Embrace the snow and the cold, bundle up and play outside like you were 10 again.
·      Mellow out with a winter cocktail - try a clove julep, dandy shandy, or the classic Irish coffee.
·      Buy yourself fresh flowers, they are almost guaranteed to cheer you up as soon as you lay your eyes on them.
·      Start thinking about what flowers you will be planting in the spring and what improvements you want to make to your yard.

Try these 7 tips for beating the blues, and before you know it perennials will be popping up and bikini season will be among us.

Savvy Secrets for Your New Year

There are certain women that have that je nais se quoi
Our Muses are definite examples of that!

We are going to expose some of their beauty secrets, drum roll please…
·      Tame flyaways - Carry dryer sheets, if frizzes threaten to ruin your look, run a sheet over your hair to subdue flyaway strands.
·      Scuffs No More - Want to remove scuffs from your walls without having to repaint or touch up? Try the “Magic Eraser” which can be found in the cleaning product section of your local store.
·      Pop your Peepers - Spotlight your eyes without being too obvious by blending a highlighter like Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Éclat into the inner corners. Don't use shimmer powder, which can look too girly
·      Later, Tired Eyes! - To perk up eyes in record time, dab under the eye area with aloe vera gel for temporary firming.
·      Stroke Differently - Utilize two kinds of mascaras -- coat the top lashes with a volumizing one to create thickness and the bottom ones with a waterproof formula to put raccoon eyes to rest.
·      Good Morning, Skin - Place your toner in the refrigerator, when you place the cool toner on a cotton ball and swab your face it will really perk up your skin!
·      Wash, Rinse, Repeat - Wash only your roots and condition only your ends
·      Smudge Saver - Deodorant on your little black dress? Instead of looking for the solution elsewhere simply rub the deodorant marked spot with the inside of the dress fabric to erase it!
·      Pucker Up - Want fuller lips? Dab cinnamon oil on them to create tingle and slight swelling for an Angelina worthy pout.
·      Underneath it All - The perfect look starts with the perfect underpinnings! Make sure yours are divine, the prettier you feel underneath is directly related to how pretty you will feel once you are all put together!
·      Soul and Skin Saver - Make a difference for others on a regular basis – the joy it will create for you will radiate from your skin.
